My TING Pen can’t be switched on

Press the start button for at least 2 seconds. I can't change the sound level

There's a false pen type in the settings. Please check if you use a TINGclassic or TINGsmart (available in January 2013) pen.
In both cases you can solve the problem by changing a entry in the file SETTING.INI which is on the pen. Please connect the pen (which is switched off) to your computer. Quit the TING programme if it opens automatically.
Mac OS X mounts two volums  [TING CDFS] and [TING] on desktop.
If you use Windows, click on [Start] -> [Computer].

Open the volume [TING]. Change into the folder "$ting". Look for the file "SETTINGS.INI" and open it using a text editor.
Look for the line which begins with "type=". Check and change it as follow:

TINGclassic

TINGsmart

After that save the file SETTINGS.INI. Close all windows and disconnect the pen from your computer. Switch the pen on and check if you can change the sound level now.

The audio playback souds distorted

Use the mini USB cable supplied to connect the pen to a computer that is switched on or to the charging device that is available as an optional accessory. Once the green lamp lights up charge the pen for at least 1 hour.

My TING Pen switches off immediately

Use the mini USB cable supplied to connect the pen to a computer that is switched on or to the charging device that is available as an optional accessory. Once the green lamp lights up charge the pen for at least 1 hour.

There is no sound after the pen has been switched on

Briefly press [+] on the volume rocker switch several times. If this does not solve the problem reset the pen. To do so switch the pen on, take an unbent paper clip or a similar thin object and push it through the small opening on the right below the „M“ button until you feel a pressure point and hear a soft click. By pressing reset the pen is switched off. Then press the start button for at least 2 seconds.

Do the batteries have to be replaced?

The TING Pen has a fixed built-in battery that cannot be replaced. Please do not try to force open the pen.

Can I use a power supply unit to charge my pen?

You can use the commercial power supply units of smart phones, for example, provided they have a mini USB plug and output voltage of 5V / 1A (indicated on the label of the power unit). A power unit adapter will soon be available in our web shop as an optional accessory to which the mini USB cable supplied can be connected.

Can headsets or loud speakers be used?

There is a headset output on the side of the pen into which all commercial headsets with a 3.5 mm headset jack or corresponding powered speakers can be plugged.

How many books can be stored on the TING Pen?

The number of books that can be stored depends on the data volume (number and length) of the audio files. In some cases a book can use up to 200 MB.

Can books that were deleted be reloaded?

All books can be reloaded at any time free of charge.

My TING Pen obviously plays the wrong sounds!

Lightly tap your pen onto the activation logo on the back of your TING book. Incorrect sounds are played if one forgets to activate the book currently in use and the previous book is still stored in the pen’s memory.

I can’t turn up the volume on my pen any more!

In order to avoid hearing defects that can arise with operation close to the ear the volume of the TING pen cannot be raised beyond a certain limit.

Can right and left-handed people use the TING Pen?

It does not matter in which hand the pen is held.
